Rosalyn J. Gerken
Sept. 16, 1940 - May 11, 2008
Rosalyn J. Gerken, age 67 years, of Hudson passed away Sunday, May 11, 2008, at Lynwood Manor in Adrian.
She was born on Sept. 16, 1940, in Napoleon, Ohio, the daughter of Donald and Henrietta (Kluth) Young. Rosalyn graduated from Napoleon High School in 1958. She married Eldor Junior Gerken on June 14, 1959, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Napoleon. He preceded her in death on Dec. 14, 2007.
Rosalyn worked at Siena Heights University as a secretary and later for the Hudson Police Department. She served on the Hudson City Council and volunteered her time on several other committees for the betterment of the city. Rosalyn enjoyed reading, gardening and taking care of her family.
Rosalyn is survived by her four children, Barbara Swafford of Cincinnati, Ohio, David Gerken of Hudson, Dr. Stacey Gerken of St. Peter, Minn., and Lynley (Brad) Dye of Columbus, Ohio; two grandchildren, J.B. Swafford and D.J. Gerken; four brothers and sisters, Tony (Mary) Young of Defiance, Ohio, Mary Fowler of Austin, Texas, Ida (Wilbert) Bostelman of Napoleon and Anne (Bruce) Riley of Wauseon, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews and cousins and her special dog, Heidi.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Louis Young. Cremation has taken place.
Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Hudson with Pastor Joel Sarrault officiating.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 13, 2008, from 5-8 p.m. at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Hudson.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Leonard A. Gerken
March 24, 1951 - May 10, 2008
Leonard A. Gerken, 57, of Boulder City, Nev., and Colton died Saturday at Covenant Health Center in Saginaw, Mich.
Born March 24, 1951, in Fulton County, he was the son of Eldor Gerken of Whitley City, Ky., and the late Winifred (Raker) Gerken. On June 21, 1974, he married Sherie Kessler-Barnes, who survives.
He was employed with Carpenter’s Union #1138 in Ohio for 25 years and Union #1977 in Nevada for 10 years, retiring in 2006.
He is also survived by four sons, Kenneth (Leslie) Barnes of Liberty Center, Thomas (Diane) Barnes of Brandon, Miss., Troy (Randi) Gerken of Napoleon and Dustin (Kylie) Gerken of Washington City, Utah; his step mother, Lois Gerken of Whitley City; three sisters, Bernadine Rader of Toledo, Patricia (William) McCaan of Fremont and Sandra Maxwell of Whitley City; three brothers, James (Dorothy) of Grayling, Mich., Darrel of Rudolph and Mark (Linda) of Swanton; five step sisters, Corrine, Ellen, Karen, Amy and Julie; three step brothers, Rob, Allen and Sandy Ray; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and special friend Ron Garber of Liberty Center.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Terry; and a step sister, Janice Gerken.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wright Funeral Home, Liberty Center, Rev. David MacDonald and Cecily Rohrs officiating. Committal services and interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens in Waterville.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Alice Aschliman
Feb. 25, 1917 - May 10, 2008
Alice Aschliman, 91, of Archbold and formerly of Franklin Township died Saturday at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.
Born Feb. 25, 1917, near Archbold, she was the daughter of Enos and Emma (Witmer) Stuckey. On Dec. 30, 1939, she married Vernon Aschliman, who survives.
A homemaker, she was a charter member of the Tedrow Mennonite Church.
She is also survived by three sons, Reuben (Beverly) of Fort Collins, Colo., Stephen (Jan) of Nashville, Tenn., and Calvin of Chicago; three daughters, Mary Ann (Gary) Eastty of Ridgefield, Wash., Marlene (Dave) Bell of Columbia City, Ind., and Joyce Aschliman of Archbold; a sister, Florence Stuckey of Fort Wayne; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Aschliman; two sisters, Doris Engle and Velma Richer; and a grandchild.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tedrow Mennonite Church, Pastor Randy Nafziger officiating. Interment will precede at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Pettisville Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Fairlawn Chapel.

J. Franklin Kelly

J. Franklin Kelly, 86, of Holgate died Thursday at the Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
Born Sept. 20, 1921, in New Bavaria, he was the son of John and Cecilia (Flowers) Kelly. On June 26, 1954, he married Glenna L. Ditto at St. John’s Catholic Church, Delphos, and she survives.
A WWII Army veteran, he served time in Japan. He was a member of the Holgate High School Class of 1940, but received his Veteran High School Diploma in 2006. A farmer, he retired Nov. 25, 1986, and then worked at Holgate Agri-Supply. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Holgate, the Holgate American Legion Post #340, the New Bavaria V.F.W. Post #8847 and New Bavaria AMVETS Post #599. He was also a life member of the Knights of Columbus #1757.
He is also survived by four sons, Timothy of New Bavaria and Terrance (Shelly), Thomas (Mary Ann) and Todd (Chris), all of Holgate; a sister, Mary Alice Whitney of Defiance; and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul, and a sister, Eileen Gustwiller.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Monday at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with Father Stephen Stanbery officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery with military honors accorded by the New Bavaria V.F.W. Post #8847 and the Holgate American Legion Post #340.
Visitation will be 1-4 and 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Zachrich Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Holgate. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

Janet R. Hamilton, 65, of Irons, Mich., and formerly of Grand Rapids, Ohio, died April 8 at Spectrum Health, Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Born April 13, 1942, near Grand Rapids, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late John and Lula (Siders) Herman. On July 19, 1959, she married Francis “Sonny” McColley, who preceded her in death. On Oct. 8, 1998, she married Irvin Hamilton, and he survives.
She lived most of her life in Grand Rapids, Ohio, and worked for many years at the Family Affair Restaurant.
She is also survived by three stepchildren and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Kay Herman; and a brother, Hal Herman.
Private graveside services will be held at Beaver Creek Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Ohio.

Ruth A. Garrow
Aug. 24, 1917 - May 7, 2008
Ruth Ann Garrow, 90, of rural Wauseon died Wednesday at her residence.
Born Aug. 24, 1917, in Wauseon, she was the daughter of Ralph Brigham and Frances (Pearson) Brigham. On Aug. 5, 1939, she married Herbert Garrow, who preceded her in death March 16, 1996.
A graduate of Davis Business College, she was employed as a secretary with Chesterfield Schools for 15 years. She was a 40-year member of East Chesterfield Christian Church and a member of Chesterfield Country Garden Club. She was also a Girl Scout troop leader and a sponsor and avid supporter of the “Gramma’s Boys” softball team.
She is survived by a daughter, Susan (Fred) Shelden of Wauseon; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers, John, Walt, Joel and Howard Brigham.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17 at East Chesterfield Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, Lyons, Pastor Rich Young officiating. A public graveside service and interment will precede at 10 a.m. at Wauseon Union Cemetery.

Born July 4, 1931, he was the son of Theodore “Spot” and Gladys Rohrs. He married Nancy Clark, who survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Jeffery and Gregory; three daughters, Jane, Sally and Lori; and a sister, Betty (Eldor) Franz.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles, John, Robert and Richard.

Virginia M. Layman
July 7, 1920 - May 7, 2008
Virginia M. Layman, 87, of Archbold died Wednesday at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.
Born July 7, 1920, in Wauseon, she was the daughter of Clarence and N. Frances (Olmstead) Galbraith. On Sept. 2, 1939, she married Duane L. Layman, who preceded her in death April 19, 2008.
She attended Archbold Evangelical Mennonite Church and was a member of the former Fulton County Trailmaster Camping Club.
She is survived by a son, David L. (Deborah) Layman of Fayette; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Harold Galbraith; and a sister, Helen Rice.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Archbold Evangelical Mennonite Church, Pastor Michael Rice and Pastor Stuart Rex officiating. Interment will be at Bayes Cemetery near Wauseon.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Friday at Fairlawn Haven Chapel.

Evelyn I. Voirol, 72, of Ney died Tuesday at The Toledo Hospital.
Born Dec. 2, 1935, in Henry County, she was the daughter of Otto Baden and Lesta Wilson. In 1983, she married Stan Voirol, and he preceded her in death in 2001.
She retired from General Motors in 1997 after serving 25 years as a laborer. She was a member of UAW Local #211 and St. Stephen Lutheran Church of Defiance.
She is survived by two daughters, Deborah (Dennis) Okuley of New Bavaria and Beverly (Joe) Blosser of Defiance; a step daughter, Michelle Voirol of Elkhart, Ind.; a brother, Royce Baden of Van Wert; a sister, Elvera Jones of Freelandville, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Gerald Boff; a son, Gary Boff; and an infant brother.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Mast-Mock-Hoffman-Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance. Interment will be at Myers Cemetery in Defiance County.

Kenneth W. Musshel, 84, of Leesburg, Fla., and formerly of Napoleon died Sunday.
He was a master scheduler with General Motors, never missing a day for 35 years. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Eustis, Fla., and was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving with the 315th Troop Carrier and in the 34th Squadron.
He is survived by five daughters, Mary Kay Lavin of Eustis, Jane Ann Crossland of Leesburg, Kathy Sue Leake of Webster, Fla., Karen Louise Konrad of Bowling Green and Pamela Jo Heminger of Milner, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther; and a brother, Robert.

Ruby Belcher, 84, of Napoleon died Monday at her residence.
Born May 6, 1923, in Pine Grove, W.Va., she was the daughter of William H. and Stella L. (Lancaster) Thomas. On Nov. 27, 1941, she married William H. Belcher Jr., who preceded her in death in July 1997.
For more than 20 years, she worked for Campbell Soup Supply Co. of Napoleon, where she was a member of the UFCW Local #911.
She is survived by four daughters, Betty Maynard of McClure, Phyllis (Gary) McDaniels of Valparaiso, Ind., and Pat (Jim) Brown and Barb (Bill) Rodenhauser, both of Napoleon; five sons, Darrell (Opal), John (Lisa), Donald (Julie) and Mike (Kris), all of Napoleon, and Ronald “Dino” of Malinta; two sisters, Frieda Yoho and Hazel Alton, both of Parkersburg, W.Va.; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Chester “Chuck” and Pete Thomas; two sisters, Nellie Willey and Thelma Mason; and two grandchildren.

A graduate of Evergreen High School in 2005, he worked for Lees Auto Sales in Swanton as an auto mechanic.
He is also survived by two brothers, Andrew (Louisa) Pontious and James (Rosie) Pontious; and grandparents Esther Wulff, Laura May Hayes and Harold Rising.
He was preceded in death by a grandfather, George Wulff.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Lyons Cemetery, Father Robert A. Holden officiating, with a reception to follow at the Lyons V.F.W. Post.

Ronald Dean “Ron” Cline, 67, of Bryan and formerly of Archbold died Saturday at Community Hospitals of Williams County in Bryan.
Born June 12, 1940, in Hooker, Okla., he was the son of Virgil and Ruth (Henderson) Cline.
Prior to his retirement, he had been president and co-founder of Cline Brothers Roofing, Inc. in Archbold. He had been a member of Montpelier F&AM since 1975.
He is survived by four daughters, Ronda Goebel of Bryan, Karen Cline of Edgerton, Christy Coutz of Pioneer and Cathy Lesniak of Hudson, Mich.; two sisters, Patsy Ball of Fort Meade, Fla., and Betty Jo Mills of Independence, Mo.; a brother, Gerald (Jerry) of Archbold; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John (Jake) and Ted.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grisier Funeral Home, Archbold, Pastor Jeff Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Grove Cemetery in West Unity.

Geraldine A. Wurns, 86, of Swanton died Saturday.
Born Aug. 25, 1921, in Fulton County, she was the daughter of Kenneth and Marjorie Vaughan. She married Frank Wurns, who preceded her in death.
She was a member of the American Legion Woman’s Auxiliary, president of the V.F.W. Woman’s Auxiliary and a member of the Fine Arts Association. As a painter, she won many first place ribbons at the Fulton County Fair, Delta Chicken Festival and the Corn Festival in Swanton.
She is survived by 10 children, Bonnie Hickman and Diane (Richard) Rollf, both of Toledo, April (Waldo) Box and Becky (Lanny) Heyman, both of Florida, Roberta (Paul) Meyers and Frank “Jack” (Teresa), both of Delta, Robert (Kay) and Frances “Jill” Mold, both of Swanton, Vaughn (Linda) of Wauseon and Christine (Doug) Olwick of Swanton; a step daughter, Karen Holley of Toledo; three brothers, William (Jean) Vaughan of Whitehouse, Kenneth (Deborah) Vaughan of Ottawa Lake, Mich., and Bruce Vaughan of Portland, Ore.; two sisters, Althea Schmidt of Swanton and Mary (Robert) Pospisil Leesburg of Lake County, Fla.; 23 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers Herbert, Archie and Ralph; a sister, Vernadine Brockhoff; and two grandchildren.
Public graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Fulton Union Cemetery near Delta, Pastor Donna Stutzman officiating. A luncheon will follow at the American Legion in Swanton, where the family will receive friends.

Donald F. Smith
July 6, 1914 - May 2, 2008
Donald Fiser Smith, age 93, died at Golden Living Center-Northcrest in Napoleon on May 2, 2008.
He had been in failing health since 2001.
Born to Delmar and Blanche (Fiser) Smith on July 6, 1914, he was a lifelong farmer in Henry County; family farms that are now designated as Ohio Centennial Farms. His sisters Marian (Harry) Ziems and Eva (Orley) Sturdavant preceded him in death, along with an infant sister and brother.
Donald was a Hamlet fan and could quote soliloquies until late in life. He appeared in a number of local plays as a young man. His dry sense of humor and ready smile made him a favorite among his family and friends.
He walked to school at Olive Branch in Northwest Damascus Township with neighbor Irene Jennings and they chose to walk their lives together in matrimony. They married in Deshler, Ohio, on April 4, 1937. They wintered in Melbourne, Fla., for many years with friends from Henry County. Irene died in Florida in 1990. They had two children, Thomas Ray, who died in December 1962, and Barbara (Donald) Barkley, Napoleon.
Donald is also survived by three grandchildren, Lori (Tony) Adams of Archbold, Lisa Starks of Liberty Center and Steven (Tina) Parsons of Napoleon. Four great-grandchildren also survive, Emily and Derek Kruse of Archbold and Reese Parsons of Napoleon and Jordan Kline of Liberty Center.
In July, 1991, he married Winifred Leatherman, and she survives.
Mr. Smith was active as a youth in the United Brethern Church in McClure and maintained his lifelong membership as it became the Evangelical United Brethern and then United Methodist. He was active in many committees in the church over the years. He was a member of Harrison Grange and an officer in the Henry County Farm Bureau, Ohio Farm Bureau and a board member of McClure Elevator.

Henry E. “Hank” Mowery

Henry E. “Hank” Mowery, age 62, died on Thursday, May 1, 2008, at the Paulding County Hospital.
He was born on Nov. 12, 1945, in Chicopee Falls, Mass., the son of Eugene A. and Henrietta A. (Luedeke) Mowery. On Feb. 15, 1969, he married Sally Dwenger, who survives.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. In 2007, he retired from Toms Installation in St. Henry, Ohio, after working as a telephone technician for 30 years. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paulding.
He is survived by his wife, Sally of Paulding; his mother, Henrietta Mowery of Celina, Ohio; a daughter, Michelle (Tom) Nicholson of Defiance; a son, Kerry (Rachel) Mowery of Napoleon; a sister, Ruth (Jerry) Long of Celina; three brothers, David (Kathy) Mowery of Sylva, N.C., Steve Mowery of Celina and Charlie Mowery of Fairborn, Ohio; and five grandchildren, Taylor, John and Sarah Nicholson of Defiance and Layla and Jack Mowery of Napoleon.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene, in 2006.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulding, with Rev. G. Allan Fillman officiating. Burial will be in Paulding Memorial Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by Paulding V.F.W. Post #587.
Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2008, at the Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, with a wake service at 7:30 p.m. Calling also one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Stephanie L. Kossow

Stephanie L. Kossow, 20, of Napoleon died Thursday at her residence at The Ohio State University.
Born April 23, 1988, in Sylvania, she was the daughter of Douglas and Mary Beth (Delventhal) Kossow of Napoleon, who survive.
A member of St. John Lutheran Church - Freedom Township and the Lutheran Youth Fellowship, she was a student at The Ohio State University where she was a member of the Women’s Glee Club. She was a 2006 graduate of Napoleon High School, where she was involved in the Jazz Choir, Drama Club, National Honor Society and was a member of the basketball, volleyball and soccer teams. She was a member of the Gerald Busy Fingers 4-H Club and a counselor at Camp Palmer for 4-H.
She is also survived by two brothers, Tyler and Logan, both at home; grandparents, Ervin and LaDonna Kossow of Perrysburg and Walter and Lucia Delventhal of Napoleon.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church - Freedom Township, with Pator Stephen Niermann officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Monday at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Napoleon, and one hour prior to the services Tuesday at the church.

Kenneth Dale “Tiny” Harris, 79, of Deshler died Friday at his residence.
Born June 20, 1928, in Melrose, Ohio, he was the son of Everett and Nellie Irene (Burkepile) Harris. On Oct. 31, 1948, he married Charlotte Louise Rosebrook at Peace Lutheran Church, Deshler, and she survives.
A veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1946-1948 as a Seaman First Class and played in the Navy band. He received a bachelor’s degree from Bluffton Universit, and a master’s degree from Bowling Green State University. The owner and operator of the former Deshler Cardinal Food Store, he also previously managed the Deshler Food Center. He was a sixth-grade teacher at Hamler Elementary and a principal with Anthony Wayne Schools, Whitehouse. He was also a real estate agent with Ed Rohrs Realty, Holgate, and Dale Harris Realty, and last worked as a land man with Eagle Mountain Energy Corp., Reynoldsburg, and as a truck driver for Claude Sintz, Inc., Deshler. A member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Deshler American Legion Post #316, both of Deshler, he was also a member of the Henry County Fair Board for more than 10 years and a former Henry County Republican Central Committee member.
He is also survived by four sons, Steven (Ann) of White Stone, Va., Brian (Anna Marie) of Goshen, Ind., and Kent (Sherrie) and Todd (Sherry), both of Deshler; a brother, Keith (Marvelle) of North Baltimore; 15 granchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Franz.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with Pastor Mark Bauer officiating. Interment will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery, where graveside military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and the Deshler American Legion Post #316. A luncheon will follow the burial in the church fellowship hall.
Visitation will be 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler.

Doris M. Nardi, 89, of Delta died Friday at Swanton Health Care.
Born April 14, 1919, in Frankfort, Ind., she was the daughter of Drexel and Marie Lewis. She married Henry “Hank” Nardi, who preceded her in death in 1995.
She was a lifelong homemaker.
She is survived by three daughters, Beverly (Ralph) Learst, Judith (Tom) Whitten and Diana (Gary) Hoffman; seven sons, Robert (Dixie) Galbraith, Charles (Debbie) Galbraith, Morley “Skip” (Judy) Galbraith, Tom (Kathy) Galbraith, Richard (Pat) Galbraith, Rodney (Pat) Galbraith and Keith Galbraith; a sister, Francis Warrington; 22 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Gene and Robert Lewis.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Greenlawn Cemetery in Delta, Pastor Jeff Yates officiating.

Betty A. Stucky, 84, of Napoleon, Ohio, died Thursday, May 1, 2008, at Fulton County Hospital in Wauseon, Ohio.
She was born Nov. 3, 1923, in Bluffton, Ind., to the late Everett and Catherine (White) Wamsley. On March 17, 1942, she married Paul Stucky at the Congregational Christian Church in Warren, Ind., who preceded her in death on Aug. 26, 1991.
Betty was a homemaker who helped run her family’s appliance store and chicken hatchery before moving to Napoleon in 1975. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Napoleon, several local bridge clubs, and a former member of Bert G. Taylor Post #300 American Legion Auxiliary of Napoleon.
She is survived by a son, Nick (Beth) Stucky of Marietta, Ga.; a daughter-in-law, Helen (Rich) Imbrock of Napoleon; a brother, Tom Wamsley of Glenwood, N.M.; a sister, Lois Brown of Hartford City, Ind.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Scott Stucky; a sister, Phyllis Dunwoody; and brothers Dean and Bob Wamsley.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Napoleon with Pastor Peter Marcis officiating. Interment will follow at the Glenwood Cemetery of Napoleon.

Clarence E. “Gene” Kutzli, age 60 of Perry Hts., passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Hanover House following a short illness.
Gene was born Aug. 30, 1947, in Liberty Center, Ohio, to the late Fernando and Rosemary (Mueller) Kutzli.
Following high school, he entered the U.S. Navy and retired after 20 years. After his retirement from the U.S. Navy, he moved to Stark County. Gene was currently employed by the City of Canton in the Water Department. He loved the outdoors and spent many weekends on his land near Cambridge, Ohio. His dream was to retire on this land.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, David, Lawrence and Marvin Kutzli.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Audrey M. (Richard) Kutzli of the residence; two children and a son-in-law, Christopher Kutzli and Angela and John Hackenberg; six grandchildren, Cassie, Christopher, Haylee, Kristynn, Autumn and Jonathon; three sisters and two brothers, Bryce and Emmie Kuzli of Manchester, Tenn., Cynthia Kerr of Defiance, Ohio, Kevin and Judith Kutzli of Liberty Center, Darcy Kutzli of Defiance and Grace and Albert Castillo of Napoleon, Ohio.
Friends may call Saturday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and Sunday from noon until the service at the Paquelet Funeral Home in Massillon.

Norma Jean Boyer, 74, of Deshler died Thursday at her residence.
Born April 14, 1934, in Wood County, she was the daughter of Walter and Helen A. (Crocker) Rush. On July 28, 1956, she married Roger N. Boyer, who survives.
She worked more than 30 years at the Campbell Soup Supply Co., retiring in 1994. She was a member of Deshler United Methodist Church.
She is also survived by three daughters, Cathy (Tom) Croninger and Sherry Emmitt, both of Deshler, and Cindy (Frank) Baumbarger of Weston; two sons, Charles “Bus” (Cheryl) Archer of Sanger, Calif., and Dennis Boyer of Deshler; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Booth and Joanne Rush; and a grandchild.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler, Pastor Janet Lewis-Cattell and Pastor Don Krieger officiating. Interment will be at Milton Township Cemetery in Custar, and a luncheon will follow at Deshler United Methodist Church.

Renelda Yarnell, 97, of Napoleon, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at The Lutheran Home at Napoleon after a lengthy stay. She was born on June 26, 1910, in Lokeren, Belgium, the daughter of the late Marie and Edmond DePage.
Renelda was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Lester Yarnell, on Nov. 15, 1994; her son, Dan (Sonny) Yarnell on March 15, 2001; and sisters Yvonne DePauw and Gertrude Edwards.
Renelda was a devoted wife and mother, a generous and loving person and was known for many acts of kindness and generosity. Her spirit of gratefulness and contagious sense of humor served her well and delighted all those who knew her. She loved spending time with friends and family, baking, crocheting, playing cards and going to bingo.
She was a lifetime member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Napoleon, their Jolly Timers, a member of Catholic Ladies of Columbia and the Moose Lodge of Napoleon.
Survivors include her children, Mary Ann (John, deceased) DeWit of Napoleon, Tom (Arlene) Yarnell of Martin, Tenn., and Susie (Andy) Gillies of Louisville, Ky.; grandchildren, Mike (Mary) DeWit of Napoleon, Diane (Greg) Hemsoth of Jacksonville, Fla., Dan (Margie) Yarnell of Snowcamp, N.C., Mary Kay (Joe) Mariceo of Findlay, Lester Yarnell of Findlay, Peggy (Harold) Hebert of Bloomdale, Michelle (Stephen) Wood of Paducah, Ky., Brent (Sharon) Dunne Gillies of Louisville, Nick (Katie) Gillies of Chicago and James Michael Yarnell of Fostoria. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Born Aug. 15, 1917, in Jefferson Township, Williams County, he was the son of Harlan and Grace (Shaffer) Smith. On Jan. 22, 1942, he married Nadene L. Fleagle, who preceded him in death in 2000.
Prior to his retirement, he had worked for many years farming for Christy Brothers and had also worked for many years at the Stryker Elevator. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Stryker.
He is survived by a daughter, Sharon L. (James) Helbig of Bryan; a son, Charles R. (Trudy) of Nelsonville, Ohio; two brothers, Maurice (Connie) of Montpelier and George of Wauseon; three sisters, Modella (Jack) Wallace of Chicago, Lillian (Morris) Towns of West Unity and Marjorie (Ray) Gorrell of Xenia; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Elgie and Russell; and five sisters, Ruth Johnson, Irene Werder, Pearl Whetro, Nellie Jean Stickroth and Mary North.

Born June 3, 1920, in New Bavaria, he was the son of Louis and Helen (Swary) Gustwiller. On Feb. 14, 1944, he married Mary M. Cajka, who preceded him in death March 7, 2006.
A member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Bavaria, he previously worked for the Zellers Corp. in Defiance and owned and operated Gus’ Welding in Defiance.
He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Widmer and Catherine Whitehead, both of Ottawa; five sisters, Pauline “Beanie” Thomas and Ruth “Betsy” Steffel, both of Holgate, Alberta “Berta” Wenzinger of Continental and Anna “Honey” Reed and Pearl “Babe” Klingshirn, both of Defiance; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Gary; a brother, Aloysius “Boy” Gustwiller; and two sisters, Antoinette “Nettie” Wolf and Martha “Bootsie” Reineke.

Arnold G. Armbruster, 84, of Angola, Ind., and formerly of Northwest Township and Napoleon died Monday at Lakeland Woods Nursing Center in Angola.
Born on Aug. 27, 1923, in Henry County, he was the son of George H. and Lena (Kregel) Armbruster. On Dec. 16, 1944, he married Orianna R. Rohlf, who preceded him in death Jan. 20, 1984. On Dec. 27, 1993, he then married Esther Warner, who also preceded him in death March 9, 2003.
He was a farmer and milk truck driver and was formerly employed by Zeller Corp. Most recently, he had been a greeter for 14 years at Wal-Mart in Napoleon. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Fremont, Ind., and he was active in the Henry County Senior Center, where he delivered meals on wheels.
He is survived by a son, John (Jo) of Edon; two daughters, Barbara (Phillip) Ellis of Angola and Lois (Roger) Zeedyk of Hicksville; six stepchildren; a brother, Lawrence (Polly) of Napoleon; 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a great-grandchild.

Born Nov. 5, 1944, in Oakmont, Pa., he was the son of Joseph and Mary (Siplive) Furko Sr. of Archbold.
He received a bachelor of science degree from Defiance College and a master’s degree from St. Francis College in Fort Wayne, Ind. He was a teacher, coach and counselor at Liberty Center High School for many years and, since his retirement, he has worked for the Fulton County Senior Center. He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Archbold and the Eagles Lodge and an associate member of the American Legion and V.F.W., both in Wauseon.
He is also survived by a brother, Joseph (Judy) Jr. of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; and a sister, Virginia Buehrer of Archbold.
Private services will be Tuesday at Short Funeral Home, Archbold, Father Gary M. Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery.

Florence F. Wilson
July 24, 1917 - April 28, 2008
Florence F. Wilson, age 88, of Spring Lake, Mich., passed away Sunday, April 27, 2008, at a local care facility.
She was born July 24, 1919, in Holgate, Ohio, to Herman and Minnie (Voight) Meyer, and she married Charles M. Wilson on Dec. 25, 1939, in Holgate. He preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 2006.
Mrs. Wilson was a 1937 graduate of Holgate High School and attended Northwestern School of Commerce in Lima, Ohio. She was employed as the city treasurer for Rogers City, Mich., and later as a church secretary and bookkeeper for 35 years at First Presbyterian Church of Napoleon, Ohio. Florence moved to the Tri-Cities area in 1996 and was a member of Spring Lake Presbyterian Church and a resident of the Liberty Woods Cooperative Retirement Apartments. She loved people, playing cards and bookkeeping. She especially liked spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is lovingly remembered by two daughters, Susan (Larry) Dews of Spring Lake, Mich., and Carol (Mike) Holm of Muskegon, Mich.; three grandchildren, Brien (Sara) Dews, Sherry (Joe) Schoemaker and Dawn (Jeff) Duthler; and nine great-grandchildren, Wesley, Brandon, Elly, Kyle, Keagan, Audrey, Lindsey, Heather and Brady Charles.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; two sisters, Renata Lah and Naomi Pickering; and two brothers, Richard and Harold Meyer.
The service for Florence will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2008, at Spring Lake Presbyterian Church with Rev. Daniel Anderson officiating.

Anna S. Semelka Flory, 87, of Wauseon died Friday at her residence.
Born Oct. 25, 1920, in Toledo, she was the daughter of Joseph and Frances (Stern) Pivonka. On Dec. 18, 1937, she married Fred Semelka, who preceded her in death in March 1990. She married Gladwin “Monk” Flory in 1992, and he preceded her in death in June 2006.
A homemaker, she was also employed at Sheridan-Globe Corp., Wauseon. She was a member of First Christian Church, Wauseon, and a member of its Christian Women’s Fellowship. A former president of the Wauseon Community Garden Club, she was a cub scout den mother and was involved in the Child Conservation League of Fulton County.
She is survived by two sons, Fred (Pat) Semelka of Addison, Mich., and Ron Semelka of Wauseon; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by six sisters and two brothers.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, Pastor Mitch Maxted officiating. Interment will follow at Wauseon Union Cemetery.

An elementary teacher at Swanton Local Schools for 33 years, she retired in 2006. She was a graduate of Ohio Northern University and was active at The First Christian Church of Wauseon, where she was an elder.
She is also survived by a sister, Connie (Dennis) Cahill of Dublin, Ohio.
Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church. Private interment will precede the service.

James E. Myers, 79, of Grand Rapids died Thursday at St. Luke’s Hospital in Maumee.
Born Aug. 16, 1928, in Grand Rapids, he was the son of Adam and Myrtle (Long) Myers.
He retired in 1987 after 32 years with Local 33 Sheet Metal Workers, Toledo. He also served for the past 22 years at the VA Clinic in Toledo as an American Legion service officer. A veteran of the United States Coast Guard during the Korean War, he was a member of Alva N. Sidle American Legion Post #232 of Grand Rapids and Sons of the American Legion Squadron #384 of Whitehouse. He served in numerous positions for the American Legion including past commander of the Lucas County Council, past commander of the 1st District, past commander of the Department (State of Ohio) and Executive Section of the National VA and Rehabilitation.

Naomi K. Holsopple, 89, of Archbold died Wednesday at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.
Born Sept. 9, 1918, near Thomas Mills, Pa., she was the daughter of John and Pearl (Thomas) Alwine. On April 26, 1936, she married Alvin Holsopple, who preceded her in death Aug. 20, 1994.
A homemaker, she did housekeeping and was a tour guide and volunteer quilter at Sauder Village. She was a member of Central Mennonite Church near Archbold.
She is survived by six sons, David (Aldine) of Wauseon, Paul (Pauline) of Fort Wayne, Ind., Thomas (Marcia) of West Unity, James (Sandy) and Mark (Connie), both of Archbold, and John (Cindy) of West Jefferson, N.C.; two daughters, Mary (Robert) Miller of Archbold and Martha (Mark) Miller of Boswell, Pa.; a brother, Lowel (Bernice) Alwine of Hollsopple, Pa.; three sisters, Reda Kaufman of Boswell, Edna Kaufman of Hollsopple and Ida (Sam) Holsopple of Pettisville; 26 grandchildren; and 46 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Walter Alwine; four sisters, Leora Kaufman, Mary Alwine, Ivie Short and Amy Cable; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Central Mennonite Church, Pastor Bill Holsopple, Pastor Jeffrey Smith and Pastor Charles Cautsche officiating. Interment will follow at the Pettisville Cemetery.

Minard Schwab, 95, of Holgate died Tuesday at Vancrest Health Care Center in Holgate.
Born July 18, 1912, in New Bavaria, he was the son of John and Mary (Thome) Schwab. On Sept. 5, 1936, he married Anna Desgranges, who survives.
He was a self-employed carpenter and a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Holgate.
He is also survived by two sons, Daniel (Sally) of Bowling Green and Larry (Nancy) of Cleveland Heights; a brother, Cletus of the State of Texas; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry; and three sisters, Marcella Steinberger, Corleen Like and Mary Brown.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Rev. Tamara Wood officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery and a luncheon will follow at the church.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at Snyder Funeral Home, Holgate, and an hour prior to services Saturday at the church.

Mary Ellen Kempf, 68, of Fayette died Thursday from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Feb. 4, 1940, in Hollsopple, Pa., she was the daughter of Robert and Edna (Blough) Eash. On July 30, 1966, she married Darrel Kempf, who survives.
She was a homemaker and worked at Archbold Ladder and Lugbill Cookies and cleaned homes for several families in the area. She was a member of Inlet Mennonite Church in rural Wauseon.
She is also survived by a daughter, Rhonda Kempf of Pettisville; three sons, Michael (Diane) of Pettisville, Brian of Weston and Scott of Swanton; two brothers, Sanford (Linda) Eash of Wauseon and Duane (Mary) Eash of Archbold; a sister, Ruth (Gene) Klopfenstein of Pettisville; and three grandchildren.
Joint services for her and her mother will be 11 a.m. Thursday at North Clinton Mennonite Church, Wauseon, Pastor Rick Jones and Pastor Brad Faler officiating. Interment will precede at Pettisville Cemetery.

Henrietta E. Schwab, 93, of Ottawa died Monday at Putnam Acres Care Center of Ottawa.
Born April 16, 1915, in Deshler, she was the daughter of Henry and Emma (Dunzer) Breece. On Oct. 14, 1933, she married Alton Schwab, who preceded her in death July 13, 1969.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Bavaria and St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ottawa. She served as lay minister, taught Catechism and was active in the altar society.
She is survived by three daughters, Betty (Don) Rettig of Holgate, Judith (Jerry) Fortman of Columbus Grove and Carolyn Ellerbrock of Joliet, Ill.; two sons, Jerome (Adi) of Davison, Mich., and Keith (Tammy) of Edgerton; 19 grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Mark; two sisters, Margaret Gilgenbach and Mary Kirkendall; and a brother, Ralph Breece.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Bavaria, Father Stephen Stanbery officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Edna E. Eash Nofziger, 90, of Pettisville died Thursday from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born July 5, 1917, in Davidsville, Pa., she was the daughter of Harry and Lottie (Thomas) Blough. On Aug. 18, 1935, she married Robert Eash, who preceded her in death April 27, 1986. On Oct. 15, 1988, she married Clifford E. Nofziger, who also preceded her in death April 6, 1996.
She was a homemaker and cleaned homes for several families in the area. She was a volunteer quilter at Sauder Village and was a member of the North Clinton Mennonite Church in Wauseon.
She is survived by two sons, Sanford (Linda) Eash of Wauseon and Duane (Mary) Eash of Archbold; a daughter, Ruth (Gene) Klopfenstein of Pettisville; two step sons, Denver (Evelyn) Nofziger and Dean R. (Janeth) Nofziger, both of Wauseon; a step daughter, Donelda (Leonard) Richer of Wauseon; a brother, Boyd (Betty) Blough of Hershey, Pa.; two sisters, Dorothy Eash of Johnstown, Pa., and Catherine Schrock of Harrisonburg, Va.; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ellen Kempf, who also died in the accident; a brother, Orvin Blough; a sister, Erma Holsopple; two infant sisters, Mary and Martha Blough; and a grandchild.

Duane L. Layman, 91, of Archbold died Saturday at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.
Born Jan. 24, 1917, in Fulton County, he was the son of Walter F. and Sarah (Liechty) Layman. On Sept. 2, 1939, he married Virginia Galbraith, who survives.
Prior to his retirement in 1982, he had worked at the former LaChoy Food Products and the former New York Boat Oar Co., both in Archbold. He attended Archbold Evangelical Mennonite Church and donated nearly 50 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. He had also been a Boy Scout leader with the Archbold Boy Scouts for many years and a member of the former Fulton County Trailmaster Camping Club. He also participated in the Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk almost every year until 1995.
He is also survived by a son, David L. (Deborah) of Fayette; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Layman, Opal Striggow and Clarice Long; and a brother, Edward.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home, Pastor Stuart Rex and Pastor Michael Rice officiating. Interment will be at Bayes Cemetery near Wauseon.

She was a cook, having been employed with several area restaurants including Providence Square Café, Whitehouse Inn, Family Affair and Calico Kitchen. She was a member of the Grand Rapids Sportsmen Club.
She is also survived by three sons, Rick (Janet) Haggard of Benton, La., Billy (Missy) McKinley of Dayton and Joe McKinley of Swanton; a daughter, Sue (Chris) Beyer of Waterville; a step son, Mark (Kellie) Light of Fredericksburg, Va.; a step daughter, Ann (Nac) Gracia of Archbold; a sister, Margaret (Larry) Hollowell of Huntington, Ind.; four grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He is survived by four sons, James (Marilyn) and Richard, both of Celina, Joseph (Nancy) of Rockford, Ohio, and Thomas (Julie) of Lebanon, Tenn.; four daughters, Betty (Larry) Bertke of Coldwater, Ohio, Marlene (David) Boise of Wapakoneta, Marcella (Henry) Mowery of Paulding and Bernice (Dr. Michael) Fleck of Napoleon; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She worked for many years as a waitress in Waterville.

Orville Edwin Richer, 88, died Tuesday in Mesa, Ariz.
Born Dec. 26, 1919, in Wauseon, he was the son of Samuel S. and Lucinda (Aeschliman) Richer. In 1941 he married Velma Stuckey, who preceded him in death in 1976. He married Shirley Godwin Glasford in 1977, and she survives.
He was a businessman in Wauseon for many years. Following civilian public service during World War II, he opened a farm implement business. That location later became the Studebaker-Packard car dealership, and was later turned into a Ford dealership. He also owned Exit 3 Motel in Wauseon for many years and Lincoln Lodge Motel near Lafayette, Ind. In the mid-1960s he began selling Honda motorcycles from his home and later opened Turnpike Travelers on Route 108, where he sold a variety of vehicles. He also owned a Honda motorcycle and Nissan car business in Bowling Green and a Honda motorcycle business in Van Wert. He was an active member of North Clinton Mennonite Church of Wauseon from its beginning.
He is also survived by three sons, Joe (Susan) of Toledo, Jim (Brenda) of Wauseon and Ned (Dorothy) of St. Charles, Ill.; a daughter, Margaret (Robert) Smith of Iowa City, Iowa; a step daughter, Debbie Glasford of Mesa; a step son, Greg Glasford of Carbondale, Ill.; a sister, Lucille Gerig of Archbold; nine grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Gene; and a brother, Harold.
Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at North Clinton Mennonite Church.

Richard E. McCance

Richard Earl McCance, 87, of Deshler died Wednesday at the Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay.
Born March 14, 1921, in Napoleon, he was the son of Clenzo and Ruth (Rehl) McCance. On May 28, 1945, he married Virginia Doda, who preceded him in death in October 1965. On Sept. 19, 1970, he married Helen (Boyer) Pendleton, and she preceded him in death March 7, 2003.
He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. North Carolina as a Gunner’s Mate 3rd Class from 1941-1945. He worked as a car inspector for more than 30 years with the CSX Railroad Corp. on the B&O Railroad, retiring in 1981. He was a member of Deshler United Methodist Church, a life member of Deshler American Legion Post #316, the Leipsic V.F.W. and the North Carolina Battleship Association, a member of the Leipsic Eagles #2793 and a 57-year member of the Telegraph Communications Union.
He is survived by a daughter, Brenda (Henry) Prowant of Deshler; four sons, William (Pat) McCance of Deshler, James McCance of Leipsic, Dan (Joyce) McCance of Holgate and Scott Bryant of Circleville, Ohio; two step daughters, Sandra (Howard) Powell of Deshler and Carol (Joe) Bergstedt of Findlay; a step son, Ralph (Rose) Pendleton of Deshler; two half sisters, Betty Gause and Marilyn Engle, both of Holgate; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by two half sisters, Patty Taylor and Audrey McCabe; a half brother, George Bernious; and two infant half brothers.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler, Pastor Chip Steffy officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and Deshler American Legion Post #316. He was a machinist and was employed by Carmel Engineering, Inc. He was a member of Word of Life Church of Elwood, Ind., and Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Cicero, Ind.
He is also survived by a son, Michael Anthony “Tony” (Amie) of Arcadia; a daughter, Heather Lynn Trump of Arcadia; a brother, Thomas (Ann) of North Baltimore; a sister, Mary Jane (Neal) Blough of St. Maurice, France; and three grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Michael.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Deshler, Father Paul A. Fahrbach officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.
Interment was March 4 at Cicero Cemetery in Arcadia.

Born March 10, 1918, in Britton, Mich., she was the daughter of Henry C. and Julia (Meyer) Meyer. On April 5, 1936, she married Raymond H. Norden, who preceded her in death on May 20, 1971.
She was employed at Sheridan Manufacturing in Ridgeville Corners and Wauseon for 26 years before retiring in 1981. She was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ridgeville Corners and a member of Ladies Aid of the Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann (Olen) Stutzman of Wauseon and Barbara Jean (Larry) Fruth of Bowling Green; a sister, Leona Hogrefe of Okolona; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Albert, Edward, Don and Richard Meyer; and four sisters, Emma Price, Helen Fay, Emelia Carothers and Ruth Meyer.

He retired in 2003 from Ford Motor Co., Lima, after 46 years of service. He attended Delphos Wesleyan Church and was a member of Local UAW #1219. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran.
He is also survived by five sons, Russell, Kevin and David, all of Delphos, Wes (Kate) of Fort Jennings and Brian (Amy) of Napoleon; four daughters, Linda Strayer Cook of Delphos, Irene (Daniel) Pavel of Van Wert, Audrey (Brian) Courtney of Wauseon and Rita (David) Heitmeyer of Leipsic; three brothers, Ronald (Juanita) of Denver, Colo., and Gary (Helen) and Michael (Becky), both of Delphos; a sister, Marilyn (Paul) Louth of Lima; 20 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Phyllis K. Spieth-Funchion, 71, of Napoleon died Sunday at the Cleveland Clinic.
Born Feb. 1, 1937, in Henry County, she was the daughter of Philip and Bonnie (Glick) Ordway. On May 6, 1956, she married Thomas R. Spieth, who preceded her in death June 20, 1997. She then married James Funchion, who survives.
She was a cashier for the Liberty Center School cafeteria for the past 29 years. She was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church, Harrison Township, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir and United Methodist Women.

She was also preceded in death by a step son, Robert Funchion; a step daughter, LeAnn Meyers; and a grandchild.

Kathryn L. Meyer, 84, of Archbold died Sunday at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.
Born April 30, 1923, in Henry County, she was the daughter of John and Florence (Kutzli) Leupp. On Oct. 30, 1946, she married Harold W. Meyer, who preceded her in death.
A 1944 graduate of the Flower Hospital School of Nursing, she worked in the nursery at Monroe City Hospital while she received her state board certification. She then enlisted in the Army Nurse Corp during World War II, serving at Camp McCoy, Wis., as a second lieutenant. She was then transferred to Oliver General Hospital, Ga., where she was promoted to first lieutenant. After leaving the service, she worked as a registered nurse at the former Detwiler Hospital in Wauseon and retired from Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home. She was a member of St. John’s Christian Church of Archbold.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharron (Richard) Hillabrand of Findlay and Laura (Drew) Gorton of Berea, Ohio; three sons, Rodney (Phyllis) of Delaware, Ohio, John (Jeannie) of St. Charles, Mo., and Brian of Wolcottville, Ind.; two brothers, Bob (Mary) Leupp of Archbold and Jim (Norma) Leupp of Stryker; and five grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Mark; and four brothers, Hazen E., John L., Charles R. and Victor L. Leupp.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John’s Christian Church, Pastor Erich Christman officiating. Interment will follow at the Archbold Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Grisier Funeral Home, Archbold.

Joyce A. Hintz, 66, of Delta died Saturday at her daughter’s residence.
Born July 25, 1941, in Delta, she was the daughter of Kenneth R. and Arvah I. (Tremain) Woody. She married Richard C. Hintz, who preceded her in death.
She received her bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University and performed post graduate work at The University of Toledo and Kent State University. She served Pike Delta York Schools for many years and was district library and media specialist. She was on Delta Village Council for 12 years, a member of the Delta Church of Christ and provided a home for eight permanent exchange students and many temporary ones.
She is survived by three sons, Kenneth (Diana), Kyle (Sherry) and Kevin (Edmida); a daughter, Dawn (Dennis) Rupp; three sisters, Mary Lou Yohe, Jean (Larrie) Skates and Louella (Richard) Caldwell; six grandchildren; and special friend, Bob Lane.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Terry Woody.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Delta Church of Christ, Pastor Scott Baker, Pastor Wesley Glines and Pastor Joel Cassetto officiating. Interment will follow at Raker Cemetery in Delta.

Norman Wayne Cramer, 70, of Defiance died Friday at the Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
Born Oct. 11, 1937, in Holgate, he was the son of Harry and Mary (Bauman) Cramer. On Jan. 29, 1966, he married Joan Carol Lippus, who survives.
A member of Zion Lutheran Church of Defiance and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Holgate, he was an usher, greeter and Sunday school superintendent. He was employed with the Campbell Soup Supply Co. for 32 years and owned Heritage Oak Furniture in Defiance. He was also a school bus driver for Holgate Local Schools and a Holgate volunteer fireman.
He is also survived by two daughters, Tammy (Darrin) Gebers of Hamler and Tracy (Anthony) Cramer Scaltz of State College, Pa.; a brother, John (Loretta) of Holgate; a sister, Barbara Kestner of Napoleon; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Mary Frances Cramer; three sisters, Virginia Retcher, Mary Ellen Fuhrhop and Patsy Schlosser; and a brother, Donald.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Rev. Timothy Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Defiance

Born May 8, 1930, in Holgate, she was the daughter of John and Margaret (Hiler) McClure. On Jan. 22, 1950, she married Thomas Thompson, who preceded her in death June 20, 1998.
She was the owner of the former Thompson Jewelry Store of Napoleon and Bryan. She was a former member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Napoleon and was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Napoleon.
She is survived by two sons, Scott (Deborah) of Vermilion and Timothy (Pam) of Napoleon; two brothers, Richard McClure of Barton Lake, Ind., and Roy McClure of Scottsdale, Ariz.; four sisters, Alma McKinnon of Defiance, Margaret Crawford of Weston, Joan Groll of Lexington and Carolyn Wilford of Elery; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Johnny McClure; and a sister, Gretchen Schroeder.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Emanual Lutheran Church, Rev. James Castello officiating. Interment will be at Grelton Cemetery.

Born Oct. 20, 1913, in Henry County, she was the daughter of James and Amanda (Ellinwood) Cooper. She married Edwin F. Dominique, who preceded her in death in 1978.
She worked at Tenneco Automotive of Napoleon for 15 years, retiring in 1977. She was also an employee of the former Wauseon Wire Co. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church of Napoleon and a member and former officer of the AARP.
She is survived by two sons, Floyd (Vivian) of Napoleon and Darrel of Cleveland; two daughters, Sue (Larry) Keller of Napoleon and Carol (Wade) Smith of Naples, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Alfred Cooper.
Services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Father Dan Borgelt officiating. Interment will be at St. Peter Cemetery in Archbold.

Ruth Short, 95, of Archbold died Wednesday at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.
Born June 2, 1912, near Archbold, she was the daughter of Aaron and Sarah (Rupp) Short.
She was a seamstress and worked as a clerk at the former Rufenacht’s Haberdashery and Bill’s Locker Room for more than 60 years. She was a volunteer in the dining room at Fairlawn Haven and was a member of Zion Mennonite Church and Fulton County Health Center Auxiliary.
She is survived by a sister, Marie Short of Archbold.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Dennis, Emmet and Earl Short; an infant sister, Thelma; and a sister, Inez Zaerr.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Fairlawn Chapel, Pastor Mona Sauder officiating. Interment will precede at Pettisville Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Friday at Fairlawn Chapel.

Born Jan. 30, 1927, in Napoleon, she was the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth (Osborn) Lawrence. She married LaViere “Zeke” Zolman, who preceded her in death.
Prior to her retirement, she worked as a cook at York School in Delta for many years.
She is survived by five children, Barbara A. Denton, Steven (Tarilynn) Zolman, Kathy S. Zolman, Karen (Harold) Ford and Pat J. Finnerty; a brother, Orval (Vi) Lawrence; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Fredie Lawrence; and a sister, Jean Gorsuch.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Zion United Methodist Church, Wauseon, Pastor Don Krieger officiating. Interment will follow at Zion Cemetery.

Her Legacy: She was born Feb. 8, 1923, in West Hope, Ohio, to Frederick and Alvina (Tietje) Bruns. In 1940, she married Arnold F. Prigge in Hamler. He died on Jan. 13, 1988. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Hamler, and the choir. She was also a homemaker and school bus driver for many years at Patrick Henry.
Her Family: She is survived by her son, Tim (Becky) of Hamler; a daughter, Diane Weaver of Wabash, Ind.; a son-in-law, Hank Van Poppel of Meridian, Texas; grandchildren Scott (Chris) Van Poppel, Todd (Alecia) Van Poppel, Tina (Philip) Whitehead, Kristin (Adam) Campos and Kari (Don) Clement; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Van Poppel; and a brother, Fred Bruns.
Her Farewell Services: Funeral services will be on Friday, April 11, 2008, at 10 a.m. in Hope Lutheran Church, Hamler, with Rev. Lindsay Shaner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. He was employed by Dinnerbell Meats, retiring in 1989, and was a member of Melrose United Methodist Church of Melrose, Ohio.
He is survived by two daughters, Brenda (Dean) Weasel of McClure and Tina (Donald) Bright of Amberg, Wis.; two sons, Christopher Barnes of McClure and Leo Mansfield of Goshen, Ind.; a brother, Bernard (Sandra) of Fort Wayne, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Thrasher; and his step father, Merrel Shull.

Rudolph “Rudy” Schwiebert, 95, of Hamler died Tuesday at Vancrest Health Care Center in Holgate.
Born April 28, 1912, in Richfield Township, Henry County, he was the son of Henry and Mary (Behrmann) Schwiebert. On Aug. 23, 1942, he married Olga A. Junge, who survives.
He worked as a pressman for more than 19 years at Allied Egry, Leipsic, retiring in 1974. He had previously worked at the former Koppenhofer Brothers Poultry of Deshler and the Baur Cannery of Hamler. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Hamler, and a former member of its Building Committee. He was also a member of the NRA and the American Racoon Hunters Association.
He is also survived by a daughter, Jeannette (Dwight) Zeisloft of Ottawa; four sons, Robert of McClure, Marvin of Continental, Jim (Cheryl) of Hamler and Howard (Deb) of Tuscon, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Lucille Schwiebert and Jalaine Mehring; a son, Ronald; two sisters, Emma Haake and Alvina Honemann; four brothers, August “Gus,” Carl, Albert and Martin; and a grandchild.

Along with her husband, she operated the Custar Tavern from 1960-80. She was a lifetime member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Custar, and its Altar & Rosary Society and the St. Cecilia Organization. She was also a 62-year member of the Norcross-Meyers American Legion Post #305 Auxiliary in Custar and a former Girl Scout Troup leader.
She is survived by a daughter, Joyce (Jerry) Walker of Custar; two sons, James (Brenda) and John (Barb), both of Custar; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence, Richard and Bernard Durliat.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Louis Catholic Church, Custar, Father Paul A. Fahrbach officiating. Interment will be at the church cemetery, and a luncheon will follow in the St. Louis School basement.

He worked in construction in Arizona until he became disabled 13 years ago. He was a member of Defiance Eagles Aerie #372 and the Defiance Fellowship Club.
He is also survived by three sons, Earl Douglas Jr. of Parrish, Fla., and Robert and Duke, both of Tucson, Ariz.; five brothers, Robert (Kim) of Pettisville, Kermit (Theresa) of Wauseon, Bruce of Ayersville, Kenneth of Holgate and Theodore Jr. of Napoleon; two sisters, Barbara (Russell) Hamm of Weston and Rosie (Jack) Williams of Napoleon; three step brothers, Boyd McCain and Dewey McCain Jr., both of Oak Hill, Ohio, and Kevin McCain of Napoleon; and special friend Bobbie Jo of Defiance.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Lynn Harmon; his step father, Dewey McCain; a step brother, Brian McCain; and a step sister, Connie Howe.

Born July 30, 1912, in New Bavaria, she was the daughter of Nicholas and Theresa (Hasselschwert) Warniment. On Sept. 28, 1940, she married Guy I. Kemp, who survives.
She worked at the Lima Tank Plant during World War II, as well as the Woolen Mill and Gregg’s Department Store in Lima. She was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Winter Haven and Good Sam RV Club and a life member of Lima V.F.W. Auxiliary #1275.
She is also survived by a son, Thomas (Connie) of Dublin, Ohio; a brother, John Warniment of Delphos; a sister, Cyrilla English of Defiance; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Anna Rose Miller, 82, of Wauseon died Friday at Hillside Country Living near Bryan.
Born July 2, 1925, in Archbold, she was the daughter of Simon and Mary (Gearig) Lauber. On Nov. 17, 1947, she married Orrin Miller, who preceded her in death in 1977.
Prior to her retirement, she was a bookkeeper for Leichty Farm Equipment in Archbold. She worked at the former Detwiler Hospital in Wauseon as a nurse’s aide and surgical aide for 7 and a half years and was a lifelong homemaker. She was a member of the former Evangelical Mennonite Church of Wauseon and a volunteer at the Fulton County Health Center and the Fulton County Senior Center.
She is survived by three daughters, Stephanie (Jerry) Huber of Mt. Dora, Fla., Leslie (Dale) Stamm of West Unity and Kathy (Dale) Creager of Leipsic; a son, Brad of Troy; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Clifford Lauber.

Ray M. Todd

Ray M. Todd, 81, of Weston died Thursday at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg.
Born Feb. 4, 1927, in Sandy Hook, Ky., he was the son of Everett and Mary (Adkins) Todd. On June 8, 1994, he married Peggy L. Goad, who survives.
He retired as a freight conductor in 1986 from Norfolk and Southern Railroad (formerly Nickel Plate) after more than 32 years of employment. He was a devoted member of Sonlight Assembly of God in Weston and a member of Ducks Unlimited.
He is also survived by two sons, Chuck (Sharon) of Toledo and Dave of Paxton, Ill.; two daughters, Lavonna (Bill) Bane of Manteno, Ill., and Gina (John) Gordon of Plainfield, Ill.; three step daughters, Yvonne (Ben) Ptake of Weston, Annette (Tab) Hager of Oregon, Ohio, and Karen (Tom) Ferrell of Jerusalem Township; two sisters, Edna Lewis and Nan Spencer, both of Canton; five grandchildren; 11 step grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 10 step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty; his second wife, Bernice; a daughter, Sheila Carricato; a step son, Joey Kiss Sr.; four brothers, Lewis, Everett Jr., John and Drexel Todd; and a sister, Ruth Fannin.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Sonlight Assembly of God, Pastor Chris Boggs officiating. Interment will follow at Weston Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Wright Funeral Home of Grand Rapids.

Donald F. Bischoff Sr.
Oct. 2, 1933 - April 3, 2008
Donald F. Bischoff Sr., 74, of Napoleon died Thursday at his residence.
Born Oct. 2, 1933, in Henry County, he was the son of Fred and Helen (Oelfke) Bischoff. On June 28, 1953, he married Esther M. Weber, who survives.
He worked at the C.F. Gerken Co. of Napoleon for 25 years, and later owned the Napoleon Realty Co. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Holgate. He was a former member of the National Realtors Association and a member of the Napoleon Lions Club.
He is also survived by two sons, Don (Laura) Jr. and Douglas (Susan), both of Napoleon; a daughter, Cathy (Terry) Behnfeldt of Malinta; and five grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Rev. Jane Hillman officiating. Interment will be at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Walker Mortuary, Napoleon.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Henry County, the Napoleon Lions Club or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Eric D. McKnight

Eric Daniel McKnight, 23, of Fountain Inn, S.C., died Tuesday.
Born in Napoleon, he was the son of Daniel and Rhonda McKnight, who survive.
He was a 2003 graduate of Mauldin High School and a member of Mount Zion Christian Fellowship Church of Greenville, S.C. He was employed as an auto technician by Goodyear in Simpsonville.
He is also survived by a brother, Scott (Jocelyn); and grandparents Sue McKnight and Vivaline Hefflinger.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mount Zion Christian Fellowship Church. Interment will follow at Cannon Memorial Park.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at Cannon Funeral Home, Fountain Inn.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the church or the American Cancer Society.

Ronald C. Adams

Ronald C. Adams of Payson, Ariz., and formerly of Toledo, died March 19.
Born May 19, 1932, in Napoleon, he was the son of Melvin M. and Gladys Mae (Hill) Adams.
He is survived by his wife, Joann; four daughters, Liz (Scott) Richey of Cornville, Ariz., Teri (Sam) Lamentola of Mesa, Ariz., Linda Robertson of Payson and Lisa (Steve) Waidelich of Stryker; two sons, Neil (Gayle) of Carthage, Tenn., and Kent (Lori) of Toledo; two brothers, Melvin (Leona) of Sylvania and Gerald (Fay) of Defiance; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Services and interment were held March 25 in Payson. A memorial service for friends and family will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Toledo, with a luncheon immediately following the service.

Robert W. Short
March 3, 1919 - April 1, 2008
Robert W. Short, 89, of Archbold died Tuesday at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.
Born March 3, 1919, near Archbold, he was the son of Albert and Eliza (Ligibel) Short. On Aug. 6, 1949, he married Myra J. Mulder, who survives.
A 1949 graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in agricultural business, he was a farmer. He served on the Fulton County Soil Conservation Board for a number of years, was an active member of Archbold United Methodist Church and was a member of Rotary International, where he was a Paul Harris recipient, served as past president of the local chapter and was recently honored for 50 years of perfect attendance.
He is also survived by four sons, John F. (Melissa) of Franklin, N.C., Peter D. (Pamela) of Archbold, James R. (Pamela) of Marietta, Ga., and Thomas A. (Shireen) of Highland Ranch, Colo.; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John L. and Harold J.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Archbold United Methodist Church, Rev. David David and Pastor Pamela Short officiating. Interment will precede at Lockport Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Friday at Fairlawn Chapel.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Archbold United Methodist Church, the Rotary scholarship fund or Fairlawn Haven.

Cheryl A. Savage-Head

Cheryl A. Savage-Head, 60, of Wauseon died Tuesday at her residence.
Born Dec. 28, 1947, in Wauseon, she was the daughter of Clyde and Irene (Thourot) Savage.
She was a bus driver for Wauseon Schools for 10 years and a cook at Elm Street School. She was coordinator of religious education for junior and senior high levels and inclusive ministry at St. Caspar Catholic Church in Wauseon, where she was a lifelong member and an active member of the rosary and altar society, the Life Teen Ministry, Catholic Ladies of Columbia, the music and eucherist ministry, the Life Beyond Today bereavement group and the Liturgy Committee. She was a member of the Wauseon V.F.W. and ladies auxiliary.
She is survived by three daughters, Michele Raike of Defiance, Meghan (John) Tishaus of Miamisburg, Ohio, and Molly (Jason) DeWeese of Dayton; two sons, Michael (Leslie) Head of Weston and Mark (Brigitte) Head of Tucson, Ariz.; two sisters, Susie (Mike) Giguere and Beth (Bill) Mellott, both of Wauseon; three brothers, Robert (Janet) Savage of Sunnyvale, Calif., William (Barb) Savage of Delta and Tom (Cindy) Savage of Wauseon; and 10 grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Caspar Catholic Church, Wauseon, Rev. Father Edward Schleter and Rev. Father Robert Holden officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Friday at the Pope John 23rd room of St. Caspar Catholic Church, where a vigil service will be recited at 8.

Ruth I. Slater

Ruth Irene Slater, 86, of Delta died Monday at Harborside Healthcare in Swanton.
Born May 10, 1921, in York Township, Fulton County, she was the daughter of Frank and Hazel (Shinew) Lenfesty. On Feb. 21, 1969, she married Bill Slater, who preceded her in death in 1972.
Prior to her retirement, she had worked as a licensed practical nurse for The Toledo Hospital and Fulton County Health Center in Wauseon.
She is survived by a son, Michael Clark of Las Vegas; a brother, Wayne Lenfesty of Swanton; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 10 at Winameg Cemetery near Delta.
There will be no visitation.

Harry Borton

Harry Borton, 84, of Lyons died Sunday at his residence.
Born June 2, 1923, in Wauseon, he was the son of Robert and Helen (Hicks) Borton. He married Betty Segrist, who survives.
A member of the Delta Eagles and past member of the Wauseon Elks, he was an auctioneer for many years. He was also a lifelong farmer and raised and boarded horses.
He is also survived by two daughters, Maryjo (James) Birk of Defiance and Rebecca Borton of Overland Park, Kan.; a brother, Robert (Nancy) Jr.; a sister, Ruthann Tanner; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Keefer.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Barnes Funeral Chapel, Delta. Interment will follow at Wauseon Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Paul E. Franz
Nov. 12, 1926 - March 31, 2008
Paul E. Franz, 81, of Florida, Ohio, died Monday at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
Born Nov. 12, 1926, in Okolona, he was the son of Alvin and Alma (Scheele) Franz. On March 22, 1952, he married Lillian Arps, who survives.
A World War II Army veteran, he retired in 1990 from G.M. Powertrain in Defiance, where he was known as the “Sand Man,” after 40 years of service. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Florida, where he served as the church groundskeeper for 23 years. He was the congregational representative for the Lutheran Laymen League and Aid Association for Lutherans, a former member of the Gerken-Herd American Legion Post #654 of Florida, a life member of the Bert G. Taylor American Legion Post #300 of Napoleon and an honorary member of the Florida Fire Department.
He is also survived by two sons, Gary (Deb) of Napoleon and Steve (Kathie) of Holgate; a daughter, Connie (Jerry) Lindhorst of Napoleon; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Sue Franz; a sister, Carmen Daman; and a grandchild.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Florida, Rev. Douglas Corniels officiating. Interment will be at Riverview Memory Gardens, rural Defiance County, where military honors will be accorded by the joint veterans post of Napoleon.
Visitation will be 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Walker Mortuary, Napoleon, where a Last Alarm Service will be held at 8:30.
