OCTOBER — Henry County Health Commissioner Mark Adams submitted his resignation to accept a position at Lorain County Public Health located in Elyria. According to a release from the Henry County Health Department, the position is closer to family and advances Adams’ career in public health.

More than 1,000 votes were cast in the first week of early voting for the Nov. 3 election in Henry County. Mary Detmer, director of the Henry County Board of Elections, said 1,023 votes had been cast.

The year 2020 not only marked the 200th anniversary of the formation of Henry County, but also the 50th anniversary of the Henry County Historical Society. Henry County Historical Society President Taylor Moyer told the Northwest Signal in October that the anniversaries go hand-in-hand with preserving history, and they will be celebrated in the future when it is safer to do so.

While kids in the Holgate and New Bavaria areas who were quarantining due to COVID-19 couldn’t go trick-or-treating the traditional way, a community effort brought the Halloween tradition to them. Christie Theisen of New Bavaria organized a reverse trick or treat, where the kids in quarantine dressed up and her two helpers — Logan Hoellrich and Kylee Kinder — dropped off baskets of candy to each house.
