BRYAN — A crash Friday night near the city claimed the life of a Defiance man.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported Phillip Powell, 33, of Defiance, was driving a 2007 Hyundai Elantra westbound on U.S. Route 6, about six miles southeast of Bryan, at about 9:37 p.m. It was reported he drove left of center and his vehicle struck a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Roger Bostelman, 78, of Hamler, who was traveling eastbound.

Powell was pronounced deceased when officials arrived on scene.

Bostelman was transported by air ambulance to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne with serious injuries. Two passengers in the Trailblazer, Shirley Bostelman, 75, of Hamler, and a 15-year-old juvenile were both transported to Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers-Bryan by Williams County EMS with serious injuries. Their condition as of Sunday was not immediately available.

OSHP was assisted on scene by the Williams County Sheriff’s Office, Stryker Police Department, Williams County EMS, Springfield Township EMS and Fire, and the Williams County Coroner’s Office.

The crash remains under investigation and the post reported impairment is believed to be a factor.
