HAMLER — The Patrick Henry Local Schools Board of Education met Monday to organize for 2021.

Members Mike Knueven and Mark Feehan were nominated for board president, with the board approving Knueven by a vote of 3-2. Mark Vennekotter was nominated and approved as vice president.

The board also approved keeping its meeting schedule as the fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m., unless otherwise scheduled.

The board discussed its committees, and, while it elected to keep its committee assignments for 2021, it was reported the board has discussed committees that may no longer be necessary.

It was noted the strategic planning/continuous improvement committee work could be done through work sessions instead, building administrators are already aware of the information from the grant advisory committee and a board member can sit in on work groups as necessary, information from the school calendar committee must be discussed one month prior in open session by law before any approvals can be made and information can be relayed between the board and superintendent for any wellness committee matters.

The remaining appointments include Eric Bostelman and Konnie Meyer for the buildings/grounds/facilities/safety committee; Knueven as legislative liaison; Bostelman and Feehan as athletic council representatives; Meyer as Four County Career Center/High Schools That Work representative; Vennekotter for the Patrick Henry Community Foundation, Inc., committee; Bostelman and Knueven for the financial/audit committee; Feehan for Patrick Henry Local School District Public Library; Vennekotter and Knueven for the policy committee; Knueven and Meyer as student achievement/parental involvement liaisons; and Meyer and Knueven for the transportation committee.

The board also:

•Authorized the superintendent to employ temporary personnel, make employment offers and accept resignations as needed; enter into leases on supplies and equipment as necessary; be the district’s representative to the Schools of Ohio Risk Sharing Authority insurance pool, Henry County Enterprise Zone Tax Incentive Review Council and purchasing agent; file applications for available grants; and enter into College Credit Plus agreements.

•Authorized the treasurer to pay “in lieu of” transportation payments or mileage approved for student transportation; make any needed advances, transfers and appropriation modifications; and pay bills each month.

•Appointed the board president as treasurer pro temper for 2021 in absence of the treasure, and the treasurer as public records designee for the board.

•Recommended the finance committee accept the responsibility of the audit committee.
