Flatrock Distillery on 'Moonshiners'

Flatrock Distillery’s owner, Lawrence Pritchard, has joined the cast of “Moonshiners” on the Discovery Channel. Above is the front of the future distillery in Napoleon.

A television crew from the Discovery Channel was in town Friday filming a local business owner for future episodes of one of its shows.

Lawrence Pritchard, owner of Flatrock Brewery and Distillery of Napoleon, auditioned in November to become a cast member of “Moonshiners,” the Discovery Channel show that looks at legal, and illegal, distilleries in the country.

The film crew was town shooting post-production shots at Flatrock Distillery, which is expected to open in April or May of this year. It will be located across from the Henry County Courthouse.

Principal shooting for “Moonshiners” took place in Tennessee in December.

Pritchard said he couldn’t discuss the show at this point since episodes won’t air until March, but he believes having his business featured on “Moonshiners” will be a boon for Napoleon.

“I think it’s going to be great for the town to be featured in “Moonshiners,” Pritchard said. “The distillery will be a great addition with the NORA (Napoleon Outdoor Refreshment Area), but I’m also hoping to bring more tourists to town because a lot of people like to visit the places they see on the show.”

Pritchard said he’s been distilling for seven years, and his grandfather was a moonshiner for several years in southern Ohio.
