WHAT: The Third Annual Hoops and Heroes benefit basketball game pitting teams from the Napoleon Firemen Association versus the Napoleon Police Officer Association.

WHEN: Wednesday, Dec. 18, 7 p.m.

WHERE: Napoleon High School’s Grand Canyon.

WHY YOU SHOULD GO: Besides the entertainment of the basketball game, funds raised by the free-will donation to enter will go toward Monica Nye and family. Monica Nye was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in October of 2018. This is a very aggressive type of cancer and she has completed five months of chemotherapy, had a mastectomy and 28 radiation treatments. She is currently on oral chemotherapy for six months and will have two more surgeries in the future.

This year it was the firemen’s decision to choose who should benefit from the event and they chose the Nye family.

She and her husband Nick are life-long residents of Henry County. Monica is the administrative assistant at The Henry County Bank in Napoleon. Nick is the deputy director of Henry County Emergency Management Agency and is a captain of the Monroe Township Fire Department in Malinta. They have a son, 10-year-old Owen.
