HAMLER — Work continues on the renovation project at Patrick Henry High School.
PH Superintendent Josh Biederstedt reported Monday the gymnasium bleachers are being installed.
Biederstedt also reported the south hallway classrooms are all ready for furniture, which is all on campus. The north classrooms all have casework installed and the whiteboards/tac boards are installed. Also, the south hallway has the epoxy flooring installed, and the blue framing around the lockers is being installed. The north hallway epoxy floor is partially installed.
Additionally, the south hallway restroom fixtures are being installed. The roof is complete, and all heating, ventilation and air conditioning units are installed. The chiller is getting the finishing touches made on it, and the hope is to have start up at some point this upcoming week.
The full scope of phase two of renovating the buildings includes further HVAC work to complete the system throughout the entire school, electrical and plumbing upgrades, a new roof, epoxy flooring for the hallways, new lockers, new paint, new interior doors, restroom and locker room updates, classroom renovations, LED lighting and a new sound system for the football stadium, LED lighting and new equipment for the theater, a gymnasium floor replacement, new hoops and pads for the gymnasium, bleacher work to include Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility and kitchen upgrades.
In other matters, the board awarded numerous extra-curricular positions for the 2020-21 school year. Those included Todd West, archery advisor; Rick Fricke, academic quiz team advisor; Carolyn Hartman, annual advisor, co-prom advisor and co-high school student council; David Parry, science club and science fair director; Christine Tussing-Bean, Spanish club advisor; Shawn Sunderman, National Honor Society advisor; Scott Bley, marching band, summer marching band, pep band, assistant musical director and orchestra director; Hailey Nusbaum, co-prom advisor and co-high school student council; Shannon George, art club advisor; Jason Gubernath, co-advisor National Junior Honor Society; Brad Ellerbrock, co-advisor National Junior Honor Society; Debi Bennett, junior high student council; Tracy Black, musical director and cabaret director; Nicole Holbrook, vocal performance ensemble; and Nick VanVorhis, assistant marching band.
Athletic extra-curricular positions approved for the 2020-21 school year included: Ben George, assistant varsity football; Ben Schwab, co-assistant varsity football; Sheila Brown, assistant cheerleading; Rylee Bower, freshman volleyball; Jill Jolliff, assistant volleyball; Bob George, assistant varsity football; Justin Lederer, freshman football; Greg Leonard, co-freshman football; Leo Zimmer, co-assistant varsity football; Anthony Stout, co-freshman football; Kirk Behrman, Neil Pfister, Terry Stout and Chris Hastedt, all junior high football; Lori Yungmann and Tori Butler, junior high volleyball; and Cara Rettig, junior high cheerleading.
The board also:
•Approved a “then and now” payment to Century Resources, Inc., for $5,592.82.
•Approved a NOVA agreement for online course licenses, professional development and instructional services for the 2020-21 school year.
•Approved six weeks of maternity leave for Becki Koch, starting approximately Sept. 1.
•Employed Chris Walter as a school bus driver on a one-year contract for the 2020-21 school year.
•Approved Carol Brubaker to serve on the Patrick Henry School District Public Libraries Board, effective March 10, 2020-Dec. 31, 2023.
•Approved seeking a waiver from the Ohio Department of Education requirements to implement a career-technical expansion program for seventh and eighth grade students for the 2020-21 school year.
•Approved an agreement with Henry County Hospital for nursing services for the 2020-21 school year.
•Approved a one-year moratorium on class fees for the 2020-21 school year.
•Approved a senior portrait and yearbook agreement with Christine Bostelman Photography and Design for the 2020-21 school year.
•Approved bus drivers, substitute teachers, aides and volunteer lists for the 2020-21 school year.
•Held an executive session regarding the employment and compensation of personnel. No action was reported following the session.
