HAMLER — The Patrick Henry Local Schools Board of Education Monday welcomed a new middle school principal and approved a new contract with teachers.

The board approved several new hires, including Kaylene Atkinson as new middle school principal. Atkinson, who celebrated her birthday Monday, was in attendance.

“I am a local girl that graduated from Napoleon (High School) and went to Heidelberg,” said Atkinson. “I have been teaching at Liberty Center for 17 years and I got the bug to join to the admin(istration). I am super excited, I love small schools and communities. I am looking forward to getting started and I know I have a lot to learn.”

Atkinson and her husband, Tim, live in rural McClure and have three adult children. She will begin at PH Aug. 1 and received a two-year contract.

In other matters, the board also approved the negotiated agreement for 2019-22 with the Patrick Henry Education Association.

The contract includes a 3 percent raise, which had been agreed upon earlier, according to Superintendent Josh Biederstedt.

In other personnel matters, the board accepted four resignations, including Ellen Pennington, cafeteria worker; Benjamin Hafner, music aide; Mike Meyer, head softball coach; and Jean Houser, cafeteria worker.
