Numerous agreements and contracts for the 2020-21 school year were recently approved by the Napoleon Area City Schools Board of Education.

A contract and memorandum of understanding was approved with Maumee Valley Guidance Center for a licensed counselor to be at the high school two days per week and at the elementary school two days per week during the upcoming school year. The cost is $48,744.

A one-year agreement was approved with Great Lakes Biomedical to provide student alcohol/drug testing at a cost of approximately $16,000, which is the same as 2019-20. A one-year agreement was also approved with Wadsworth Service for building mechanical systems service/preventative maintenance. The cost is $20,520, an increase of $600 from the 2019-20 school year.

The district will participate in the Schools of Ohio Risk Sharing Authority insurance consortium for property, liability and fleet insurance for the district. Premiums are $99,447, an increase of $2,843 from the 2019-20 school year.

An agreement was also approved with the Northwest Ohio Juvenile Detention Training and Rehabilitation Center at a cost of $44 per weekday for each student from the district who is detained at the center.

Membership fees to the Northwest Ohio Computer Association were approved for this fiscal year, as was a technical services agreement. The board also ratified an agreement with Project Lead the Way (PLTW), Inc. The agreement gives the district access to the PLTW Computer Science program curriculum for ninth through 12th grades and annual updates, as well as the electronic communication network, online assessments and evaluations, online training and online support.

The board also approved an agreement with Best Buddies International to host a local chapter. The organization is a volunteer movement dedicated to the inclusion of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The board also:

•Adopted temporary appropriations for the 2020-21 school year, with an approximate 2.1% increase in the general fund and a 2.8% decrease in permanent improvements.

•Approved the school resource officer memorandum of understanding with the City of Napoleon.

•Approved grades three to six to participate in the DEAP (Developing and Evaluating Assessments of Problem Solving) in conjunction with Bowling Green State University.

•Approved an agreement with the Northwest Ohio Educational Service Center mentor program for the 2020-21 school year.

•Approved participation in the Free and Reduced Lunch & Breakfast Program for the 2020-21 school year.

•Authorized the use of the school name for gymnastics, bowling and indoor track and field in order to compete in Ohio High School Athletic Association tournaments.

•Authorized the use of the school name for the Napoleon Equestrian Team as a club sport and to use the high school logo and name for competition.

•Approved the high school band trip Dec. 9-12 to New Orleans. The band trip date is tentative pending the COVID-19 pandemic and governor orders. Chaperones for the trip were approved as follows: Angela Behnfeldt, Brandy Deblin, David Fouty, Jackie Fouty, Christopher Fox, Angiala Franz, James Grant, Jill Grant, Andrew Lesick, Jeffrey Liechty, Shannon McMahan, Susan Roth, Dawn Schultz, Jeffrey Sonnenberg and Nicholas Torres.

•Accepted a donation of $1,000 from the Napoleon High School Alumni Association to the high school for the tree project.

The board’s next meeting will be 7 p.m. July 15.
