DESHLER — Approval has been given for the mayor to sign an application through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) for planned Pirate Park work.

The application is being made for the state’s capital improvement community park recreation/conservation program for sidewalks and improvements at the park.

Council Monday also heard from a resident to address an alley on West Main Street that was reported to have ruts that are now filling with trash and animal waste. Sewer Superintendent Brad Kitchen reported the trash is a littering matter and can be addressed by the police. He will look into the matter further with the police chief.

Council also:

•Learned the Deshler Chamber of Commerce has agreed to pay up to $400 for flowers to be planted in the downtown area.

•A farmers market will be held in the village June 18 and 19.

•Learned the police chief will attend fire training school on Tuesdays and Thursdays over the next month.

•Scheduled a swimming pool committee meeting at 6:30 p.m. May 10 to discuss the upcoming season. It was reported only three applications for lifeguards have been received.
