The Ohio News Media Foundation offers scholarships to high school seniors and college students majoring in newspaper-related programs.

The Ohio News Media Foundation, in alignment with its mission of achieving the highest standards of excellence and professionalism in all phases of journalism and newspaper publishing, awards scholarships to high school and collegiate students annually. The foundation provides funding through a variety of events and donations to this fund. Donations are accepted at ONM Foundation.

Ohio High School Scholarships

•2020-21 Minority Journalism Scholarship — $1,250. This award is specifically for Ohio high school minority students who are graduating seniors interested in studying journalism, advertising, marketing or communications at an accredited college or university within the United States during the academic year 2020-21. Eligibility: Applicants should be African American, Hispanic, Asian American or American Indian, and a graduating senior at an Ohio high school with a minimum GPA of 2.5 (C+) required.

•2020-21 Ohio High School Journalism Scholarship – $1,250. This award is for Ohio high school students who are graduating seniors interested in studying journalism, advertising, marketing or communications at an accredited college or university within the United States during the academic year 2020-21. Eligibility: Applicants should be a graduating senior at Ohio high school with a minimum GPA of 2.5 (C+) required.

Ohio College and University Scholarships

•The Harold K. Douthit Scholarship — $1,000. This award is for a student currently enrolled and majoring in a field relevant to our industry, particularly journalism, advertising, marketing or communications degree program at an Ohio college or university. The scholarship is named for Harold K. Douthit, founder of Douthit Communications, Inc., Sandusky, and a former president of the Ohio News Media Association. Eligible students must currently be enrolled as a sophomore, junior or senior at an Ohio college or university for the academic year 2020-21, majoring in field relevant to the industry, particularly journalism, marketing or communications, and have a minimum GPA of 2.5 (C+).

•Ohio News Media Foundation University Journalism Scholarship — $1,250. This award is for a student currently enrolled and majoring in a field relevant to the industry, particularly journalism, advertising, marketing or communications degree program at an Ohio college or university. Eligible students must currently be enrolled as a sophomore, junior or senior at an Ohio college or university for the academic year 2020-21, majoring in field relevant to the industry, particularly journalism, marketing or communications, and have a minimum GPA of 2.5 (C+).

Deadline for all applications is end of business Friday, May 15. All applicants must use an official application form provided by Ohio News Media Foundation.
