ARCHBOLD — The Northwest Ohio Educational Service Center and the regional quiz director recently held a virtual quiz tournament for a group of schools within the four-county area, with Pettisville Local Schools winning first place in three categories.

Sally Kovar, education consultant, and Greg Bossick, regional quiz director, hosted the tournament to enable students to participate virtually so they could have the experience of extra-curricular activities in these difficult times. Participating schools included Ayersville, Antwerp, Evergreen, Hicksville, Hilltop, Montpelier, Patrick Henry, Pettisville, Stryker, Swanton and Tinora.

Students competed in varsity, junior varsity and junior high levels. Students answered a series of questions that included areas of literature, government, history, science and the humanities using the National Academic Quiz Tournament format. Everyone involved had the chance to participate from home or within their school using social distancing.

Pettisville Local Schools won first place in all three categories. The teams are coached by Rebecca Dorosz.

In the varsity level, Evergreen Local Schools took second place and Hicksville Schools won third place.

In the junior varsity level, Antwerp Schools won second place. For junior high, Montpelier Schools won second place.

Students were also honored for their individual performances throughout the day. Students with the top points were:

•Varsity: First place – Heath Waidelich, Pettisville, first place; Chloe Gerhart, Hicksville, second place; and Branden Johnanson, Montpelier, third place.

•Junior varsity: Griffin Eash, Pettisville, first place; Kate Roth, Pettisville, second place; and Morgan Kniceley, Antwerp, third place.
