The American Red Cross is encouraging individuals to donate blood and platelets.

To donate blood, individuals must be at least 16 years old with parental consent, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health and provide a valid photo ID upon donation.

A list of local drives is printed below. Walk-ins are welcome unless otherwise noted. Prospective donors may set an appointment by calling 1-800-828-1975 or by visiting

•Wednesday, Dec. 4, mini drive at Emergency Operations Center, Napoleon, 9 a.m.-2:45 p.m., by appointment only, call Janet to schedule an appointment at 419-967-0976.

•Wednesday, Dec. 11, Liberty Center Fire Station, noon-6 p.m.

•Tuesday, Dec. 17, Henry County Hospital, 7 a.m.-1 p.m., by appointment only, call the hospital at 419-592-4015 to schedule an appointment.

•Saturday, Dec. 21, Harley Davidson Sales and Service, Napoleon, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

•Friday, Dec. 27, St. Paul Lutheran on Glenwood Avenue, Napoleon, noon-6 p.m.

•Saturday, Jan. 4, Leon Bonner Drive at Napoleon Moose, 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
