Derek Heckler, 20, of Napoleon appeared by video Monday for an initial appearance on one count of obstructing official business, a fifth-degree felony.

He requested a court-appointed attorney, and the court determined he qualified. A preliminary hearing is set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Bond was set at $15,000, with 10% permitted, under the condition he checks in with the municipal court bailiff by telephone once a week.
