Harriett McCurdy

Harriett McCurdy, 93, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and formerly of Liberty Center and Grand Rapids, Ohio, passed away Jan. 13, 2020.

Harriett was born May 16, 1926, to the late Harrison and Lina (Holland) Mears. She married Gehrett “Jack” McCurdy Jan. 14, 1947, and they were married for 51 years before he preceded her in death March 14, 1998.

Harriett is survived by her daughter, Marie Ellen Derkis; sons, Rev. John (Clare) McCurdy, Jim (Sandy) McCurdy; eight grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Harriett was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gehrett; son, Harry McCurdy; grandson, Gerard Sean McCurdy; and Harry and Florence Jacobs of Whitehouse, who were her “stand-in” parents.

Harriet was a homemaker. She was an avid reader and loved to cook for her family. She loved children very much and babysat for many children over the years. Cats were her favorite animal and her favorite music to listen to was Lawrence Welk. Family was very important to Harriett and she loved spending time with them. She will be greatly missed by everyone.

Visitation for Harriett will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020, from 10 a.m. until the time of her funeral service at 11:30 a.m. in the Hanneman Funeral Home, 24084 W. Second St., Grand Rapids, Ohio 43522. Interment will be private for the family.
