John F. “Pa” Miller

John F. “Pa” Miller, 89, of Continental, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022, at Mercy Hospital of Defiance.
He was born on Aug. 10, 1933, to Herbert and Viola (Cross) Miller. In 1956 he married the love of his life, Zelma Hart, whom preceded him in death on June 10, 1989. Pa proudly served our country in the United States Army, where he was deployed to Germany.
Pa worked as a traveling pastor for the Church of God in Englewood, Ohio, and many others. He was a member of Rock Church of Oakwood, Ohio. He worked for Campbell Soup Supply Co. from 1973-89 as a mechanic. In his younger years, he also owned and operated a smorgasbord. Pa loved animals and ran a kennel service, rescuing many dogs and cats.
His greatest joy was being a dad and grandpa. Pa will be remembered for his loving, understanding and patient heart.
Pa is survived by his son, Glen Miller; daughter, Tresa (Edward) Gilgenbach; 25 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his niece, Linda Farthing, and great-niece, Melissa Farthing, who both served as his caretakers.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Viola Miller; wife, Zelma Miller; and children, CJ Hoskins, Joyce Hoskins, George Hoskins, Barb Orthwein and John “Buzzy” Miller Jr.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, at Snyder-Hoening Funeral Home of Holgate (209 N. Wilhelm St.) from 10 a.m.-noon, with funeral services following at noon. Burial with military honors will then be held at Monroe Cemetery of Continental.
Memorial in Pa’s memory may be considered to Fort Defiance Humane Society.
