Marilynn Van Der Vliet, age 87, of Wauseon passed away at Bryan Hospital on Friday, Feb. 17, 2023.
She was born on Dec. 15, 1935, to Harry and Elsie (Benesema) Van Der Vliet in St. Anne, Illinois.
She was a hard worker and dedicated to her work. When she was younger, she worked in a coal mine in Kentucky. Upon moving to Ohio from Kentucky in 1987, Marilynn worked as a corrections officer at CCNO, retiring in the early 2000s.
When she wasn’t working, she could be found sewing, taking care of her many cats over the years, attending church where she was a missionary at heart and was very active in many missions, both home and abroad. Marilynn attended nearly 12 missions abroad including Mexico, Nicaragua and Ecuador, with her dear friend, Helen, who also believed deeply in missions. Her belief in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior was strong and her church family was very important to her. She will be remembered for her deep faith in God and willingness to help others.
She is survived by her dear friend of 50, years Helen Guilford; three nephews; and her loving church family from Zion Church of Wauseon.
Marilynn was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Roger, Davis and twin sister, Carolyn; and nephew, Scotty Kayim.
Friends may gather with the family on Friday, Feb. 24, 2023, from 10–11 a.m. at Zion Church of Wauseon, 4533 Co. Rd. 11, Wauseon, Ohio, with a Memorial Service beginning at 11 a.m., with Pastor Eli Koehler officiating. She will be laid to rest in the family cemetery, Oakwood Cemetery, in Wichert, Illinois, at a later date.
