Vickie G. Serr, age 70, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving family, Tuesday morning, March 7, 2023.
She was born Sept. 24, 1952, in Monroe, Michigan, to Victor and Betty June Walk. Vickie was a graduate of Maumee High School, class of 1970.
In the ‘70s and ‘80s Vickie had various jobs working for High Voltage Systems, Hood Electric, Kern Electric, The Decem Center and Airport Auto Parts. In the late ‘80s, after moving to Swanton with her husband, Steve, she became interested in the EMS. Starting out as a basic EMT, then later becoming and advanced EMT and finally a paramedic, after graduating from the Medical College of Ohio Paramedic Program.
During this time, she also worked in the ER at St. Vincent’s Hospital, becoming an instructor for the paramedic program at MCO, taught at Four County Career Center, taught CPR in many medical facilities and to countless individuals. Vickie served 17 years on the Swanton Fire and Rescue Department. She was a full-time assistant chief when she retired in 2008.
Vickie’s hobbies were ceramics, scrapbooking and photography.
Vickie will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, generous spirit and selflessness.
Left to cherish her memory is her devoted husband, Stephan Serr; sons, Stephan II (Michelle) Serr and Justin (Katy) Serr; grandchildren, Cassidy Serr (Michael Parker) and Chase Serr; and soon to be born great-grandson, Liam. Vickie touched the lives of so many and was loved by all who knew her.
Vickie was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Betty; and siblings, Harry Philabaun, Robert Philabaun and Bea Raymond.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 14 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton, where services for Vickie will begin at noon, with Pastor Kenny Garland officiating. Interment will follow at East Swanton Cemetery.
