Thelma L. Breece

Thelma Leota Breece, age 88, of Holgate passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Ayden Healthcare of Wauseon.
She was born in Henry County on Sept. 22, 1933, to Clarence and Johanna (Rettig) Bortz. Thelma married Frederick Breece Jr. on Nov. 14, 1954, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Holgate.
Thelma was a member of St. John’s UCC, where she was a former Sunday school teacher, member of the women’s Mayflower Circle and serving as treasurer for many years. Thelma was a wonderful cook and was a cook at Vancrest Nursing Home for many years.
In her later years, she enjoyed watching the Food Network and collecting cookbooks. She enjoyed knitting and crafting for the Mayflower Circle craft bazaar. Thelma loved spending time supporting her children during their high school sports and was a proud “volleyball and baseball” mom attending every game. Her grandchildren were a constant joy and she loved them very much.
Thelma is survived by her husband, Fred; children, Stephen of Holgate, Terry (Lois) of Hamler, Peggy (Tim) Gainsley of Maumee and Vicki Adams of Napoleon; grandchildren, Katrina Adams, Adam Gainsley, Bradly Breece, Rachel Adams, Jeffrey Gainsley and Erin Breece; and her bother, Melvin (Theresea) Bortz of Napoleon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy (William) Stitsel.
Friends and family will be received in the Zachrich Family Funeral Home, Holgate, on Tuesday, July 26 from 3-6 p.m. Her funeral services in the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with visitation an hour prior to services. Interment will follow in St. John’s UCC Cemetery, Holgate.
