Frederick “JR” Honemann, 88, of Hamler, Ohio, passed away Monday, March 13, 2023, at the Bridge Hospice Care Center, Bowling Green, Ohio.
He was born the only child to the late Frederick and Hilda (Mohring) Honemann, Sr. on Oct. 19, 1934, in Lucas County, Ohio. On June 27, 1959, he married Sandra (Sperzel) Honemann at the former Evangelical United Brethren Church, Malinta, Ohio.
JR was a 1952 graduate of Hamler High School and served in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany. Shortly after graduation, he began working with his father at Honemann Garage, Hamler. For over the next 60 years, they were auto dealerships and repair shops for the local community. He employed and mentored many young men over the years through his family business.
JR was a faithful member of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Deshler, and formerly served as a church secretary. He also lent his talents to caring for the church organ. He was a member of the Maumee Valley Sportsman’s Club and was a past councilman for the Village of Hamler.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; two brothers-in-law, Walter (Joan) Sperzel, Clark Darling; sister-in-law, Kathryn Skaff; nephews, Walter (Stella) Sperzel Jr., Matthew (Toinette) Skaff, Kristin (Roger) Davenport, Adam Skaff; and great nieces and nephew, Kristin, Audrey, Brianna, Lucia and Andrez.
He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Jo Ann Darling.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 18 at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Deshler, with Rev. Kurtis Freimuth officiating. Graveside services will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday at Feehan-Rodenberger Funeral Home, Deshler, and from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church or the donor’s choice.
