Policy Letter to editor

The Northwest Signal welcomes signed Letters to the Editor. Letters must bear the writer's signature, home address and telephone number for clarification purposes. Letters should be brief and to the point as a courtesy to other letter writers. Letters longer that 500 words will not be published. Unless noted, it is assumed any Letter to the Editor is for publication.

Unsigned letters will not be published. No poetry will be accepted. Cards of thanks by political candidates will not be published.

Thank-you letters from non-profit groups, fundraisers or anyone else will not be published as letters to the editor.

No more than one letter will be published on the same topic from the same person. Letters will not be published from the same writer, no matter what the topic, within a 30-day period.

All letters are edited and printed at the discretion of the editor.

Please address letters to: Letters to the Editor, Northwest Signal, 595 E. Riverview Ave., Napoleon, Ohio 43545. Letters may be e-mailed to: briank@northwestsignal.net.

FAMILY

The Northwest Signal encourages families to send items of interest to the newspaper, such as weddings, notable anniversaries (starting at 25 years and in five year milestones), engagements, births, notable birthdays (such as 80, 90, 100), military news, five-generation pictures and similar items.

Announcements will be printed as they are received. Effort will be made to accommodate requests for publication on a specific date - for example, an anniversary date or a birthday - however, due to the volume of requested print dates, please submit photos and announcements two weeks prior to publication date.

When possible, items should be typed or printed from a computer, instead of hand-written, to help avoid errors. If typing is not possible, items should be printed clearly.

Information with pictures should clearly identify the people in the photo and/or describe activity in the photo or the reason the photo was taken.

Always include a phone number in case further information or clarification is needed. The phone number will not be published.

Written items and pictures should be e-mailed to aaron@northwestsignal.net; faxed to 419-592-9778; or mailed to Aaron Auzins, Northwest Signal, 595 E. Riverview Ave., Napoleon, Ohio 43545.

OBITS

The Northwest Signal observes a paid obituary policy for any listing over 75 words.

Obituary costs are calculated based on word count. This does not include the deceased's name and dateline appearing at the top of each obituary.

Rates are as follows:

Up to 75 words - $30

76-150 words - $65

151-250 words - $90

251-500 words - $150

501-1,000 words - $275

More than 1,000 words - $275 plus 25 cents per word

There is a $10 charge for a picture. Flags will be run free for veterans, and a list of available club and service member logos has been provided to local funeral homes. These symbols can be added to any obituary for $10.

Obituaries will run exactly as they are sent to the newspaper.

Obituaries must be submitted by 9:00 p.m. to be included in the following day's newspaper.

Obituaries will appear both in the newspaper and on the Northwest Signal web site. Since the newspaper will not be published on Friday, obituaries arriving on Thursday will still be published on the web site on Friday, and will be placed in Saturday's newspaper.
