ARCHBOLD — The Bluestreaks return just one golfer from last season’s team that placed 10th at the Division II state championships.
Despite the losses, eighth-year coach Mike Rosebrook is optimistic about the upcoming season.
Junior Josh Nofziger is the only golfer returning that played at the state tournament, while senior Drew McCarty lettered last season.
Graduated from a year ago are Mitch Grosjean, AJ Mahnke and Kreighton Sims, while Kade Kern is also gone from the roster.
“It’s going to take us a month or so to get us where I want to be, but I believe we have as good a chance as anyone at the league title,” said Rosebrook. “We have the talent to make it to Red Hawk (site of the district tournament) for a chance at state, but it’s a little early to tell is the work ethic for this team is at the level it needs to be.”
Junior Kenny Williams and freshmen Luke Rosebrook and Isaac Reigsecker are the top prospects to replace the lost starters. Other newcomers include junior Skyler Day and freshmen Kolbi Horst and Malachi Schumacher.
Rosebrook said the battle for the Northwest Ohio Athletic League title is most likely a two-team affair.
“Bryan and Wauseon usually have pretty tough teams,” said the Archbold coach. “I would expect Bryan to have an edge this year. Their No. 1, Case Hartman, will stay pretty close to par all season.”
Archbold also has a girls golf team this season.
Senior Shylo Richardson leads the Lady Streaks, who have eight golfers on the team.
Other members of the squad are juniors Josee Grime, Lucia Rodriguez, Erika Wyse; sophomores Tatum Day and Ema Heckel; and freshmen Carly Grime and Brayton Huffman.
