The State Track and Field Championships on the first weekend of June signified the end of the spring high school season, while prep football camps signaled the next school year wasn’t far off.
Liberty Center’s Owen Long, along with three LC girls relay teams and the Patrick Henry girls 4x800 relay all reached the podium at the Division III state meet at The Ohio State University June 3-4.
Long set a personal record in placing fifth in the boys 110-meter hurdles at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, finishing in 15.18 seconds.
Liberty Center’s girls 800 relay team of senior Kate Mohler, junior Haley Mohler, junior Peyton Armey and sophomore Elle Mohler placed seventh in 1:46.12. The same four ladies then placed fifth in the 400 relay in 50.34.
On the opening day of the state tournament, Liberty Center’s 3200 relay team of sophomores Gracie Miller and MaKayla Meller, senior Hope Oelkrug and junior Mallory Stark teamed up to finish fourth, while Patrick Henry senior Chloe Baird, sophomores Megan Meyer and Lexi Holloway and senior Brooke Bostelman finished eighth in the same race.
