Aliza Lankenau

Napoleon’s Aliza Lankenau is fouled before attempting a shot in the first quarter against Springfield Tuesday in the Grand Canyon.

Napoleon won its third-straight lopsided decision, defeating Springfield 67-19 in Northern Lakes League action Tuesday in the Grand Canyon.

This time the Lady Cats showed off how good their bench can play.

Senior Emily Bostelman and freshman Sophie Chipps dominated play in the second quarter, when Napoleon scored 18-straight points during a four-minute span.

Bostelman had five steals and three assists in the second period, while Chipps scored 8-straight points in less than a minute to cap the 18-point run.

“Emily Bostelman was probably our most effective player tonight and she scored 4 points,” said Napoleon coach Corey Kreinbrink. “She gave us a spark in the second period when we were struggling to make a shot. She came in and made some steals and pushed the ball ahead.

“Sophie did what she is good at doing, making plays,” added Kreinbrink.

Springfield’s Mia Rose scored to open the second quarter, cutting Napoleon’s lead to 20-9. Emma Pedroza scored off an assist from Shae Pedroza and Caely Ressler scored off an offensive rebound to push the lead to 24-9.

Enter Napoleon’s bench.

Bostelman made consecutive steals and fed Aliza Lankenau and Taylor Strock for lay-ups, forcing a Springfield time-out.

Emma Pedroza put back a rebound for a score following the break and Chipps followed with 8-straight points. After a traditional 3-point play, Chipps buried a triple and capped the run with a lay-up off an assist from Lankenau.

Chipps and Ressler each had 12 points to pace the Lady Cats. Napoleon received 30 points from its bench players, as Emma Pedroza chipped in 9 points.

Strock tallied 10.

Rose led Springfield with 11 points.

Napoleon has won its three games this season by an average of 47 points.

“We have got to keep focusing on getting better and improving,” said Kreinbrink. “We did not shoot as well as we can tonight. We need to work on scoring in the half-court.”

Napoleon (3-0 overall, 2-0 in the NLL) travels to Bowling Green Thursday.
