The Napoleon High School Athletic Hall of Fame announced its selections for the Class of 2020, selecting seven Wildcats for enshrinement.
John Snoad is the only coach to be inducted, having coached the football program from 1994 to 2007, while three former football players were also selected in Sam Gomer (Class of 1958), Ray Saneholtz (Class of 1968) and Ron “Reenie” Stevens (Class of 1963).
Gomer and Saneholtz also participated in basketball and baseball, while Stevens competed on the golf and basketball teams.
Also selected were two members of the Class of 2007 in Kristen Gilgenbach and Casten Reed. Gilgenbach participated in track and field, basketball and soccer, while Reed competed in golf and wrestling. Reed is the head golf coach and an assistant with the wrestling program at NHS, while Gilgenbach won a state championship in the discus.
Class of 2010 graduate Samantha Zuch rounds out the class. Zuch was a member of the water polo and swimming programs, capturing five state championships in swimming.
“Every year we get a tremendous list of candidates to choose from and this year was no exception,” said Jeff Ressler, president of the Napoleon High School Athletic Hall of Fame committee. “The 2020 hall of fame class is a great mix of athletes (and coaches) who have made outstanding contributions to Napoleon athletics over a wide range of sports during their time at Napoleon High School.”
The 2020 Hall of Fame weekend will take place September 18 and 19, pending any COVID-19 restrictions. The class will be honored Sept. 18 during halftime of the Wildcats’ football game against Southview, while the induction ceremony will take place Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. at the Bert G. Taylor American Legion Post #300.
More details regarding the individuals and the events of the weekend will be released during the summer.
