HOLGATE — A decision on whether or not to join the Buckeye Border Conference (BBC) is expected during Monday’s Holgate Local Schools Board of Education meeting.
The agenda for the meeting includes a recommendation from the superintendent to accept the invitation from the BBC and leave the Green Meadows Conference (GMC) in accordance with league by-laws, effective either the 2021-22 or 2022-23 school year. The five board members, which includes two newly elected members starting their terms, will cast their votes to decide the issue, unless the board decides to delay the decision.
Holgate received an invitation to join the BBC in October and discussions have continued since, including the formation of a committee to study the issue. During December’s regular board meeting, it was decided to contact the BBC to see if the district could receive another extension as the current deadline was mid-January. Shortly after that, the district received a letter from the GMC Executive Board stating it expected a decision from Holgate by its Jan. 15 meeting or “the GMC principals will make a decision that is best for the GMC and our schools.”
The meeting will start at 6 p.m. Monday in the school library. The 2020 organizational meeting will be held first and will be immediately followed by the regular monthly meeting.
